Civil Engineering students design building systems for their final projects in EnglishCivil engineering students from FICT-ESPOL presented their final projects for the “Building Systems” course, which they developed during the academic term and presented entirely in English. The proposals incorporated water supply systems, sanitary drainage, electrical systems, telecommunications, fire protection, CCTV, and automation, applying technical, functional, environmental, economic, and safety criteria. The event helped strengthen students’ skills in technical communication, teamwork, synthesis, and project presentation in English, exposing them to situations typical of professional practice.
Technical assistance mission to Colombia following the earthquake, organized by Ecuador's Ministry of Infrastructure and Technology in collaboration with the Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral and the Universidad Católica Santiago de Guayaquil.A commission of specialists from FICT-ESPOL, UCSG, and Ecuador’s Ministry of Infrastructure and Technology (MIT) participated in a technical assessment mission in Colombia following the 7.4 Mw earthquake recorded on August 10, 2026, in San José del Palmar. During inspections conducted from August 17 to 21 in various regions of Colombia, geotechnical phenomena such as soil liquefaction, lateral displacement, and slope stability were documented, along with damage to road infrastructure, flood control structures, hillsides, and urban buildings. The information gathered will contribute to the study of geotechnical and structural responses to severe seismic events, strengthening applied research, risk management, and cooperation between academic institutions and professionals.
