Civil Engineering students design building systems for their final projects in English

Civil Engineering Students Present Projects on Building Systems

Students from the Faculty of Geosciences Engineering (FICT) at ESPOL presented their final projects for the “Building Systems” course during a virtual event held on August 19, 2026, via the Zoom platform. The event allowed students to apply the knowledge they acquired during the academic term to design building systems.

The projects covered various systems necessary for the operation of a building, including water supply, sanitary drainage, and electrical systems, as well as basic criteria for telecommunications, fire protection, CCTV, and automation, in accordance with the scope established for each proposal.

During the presentations, conducted entirely in English, the students explained the criteria used to design the systems, justified their technical decisions, and presented the products they had developed. The activity was supervised by Ingrid Orta Zambrano, M.Sc., a professor in the Civil Engineering program at FICT-ESPOL, who coordinated the development of the projects and the final presentations.

The activity also allowed students to integrate knowledge from different areas of civil engineering, taking into account technical, functional, environmental, social, economic, and ethical aspects in the development of their proposals. In this way, students applied the course content to projects relevant to real-world professional practice.

The final presentation also strengthened cross-cutting competencies such as technical communication, teamwork, the ability to synthesize information, and the presentation of projects in English. These skills help prepare professionals capable of functioning in academic and professional contexts with an international dimension.

The activity is part of the Building Systems course, which is designed to help future civil engineers understand the integration of the systems involved in a building and to consider criteria such as efficiency, sustainability, safety, innovation, and quality in their proposals.
