FICT-ESPOL presented its Geology, Mining, and Petroleum Engineering programs to students at the Santa María del Fiat School in Olón. Through workshops and hands-on demonstrations, the students learned about applications of Geosciences, career paths, and job opportunities, strengthening the bond between the college and the educational community of Santa Elena.

ESPOL held a strategic meeting with representatives from the Manglaralto, Olón, and Valdivia water boards, along with CES academic advisor Dr. Ángela Calderón, to exchange experiences on sustainable water management and collaboration between academia and communities. The meeting featured presentations by Gloria Malavé, president of JAAPMAN, and Joselyne Solórzano, Ph.D. (c), who presented in Chile, as part of LACCEI, the humanitarian engineering project carried out in Manglaralto—an initiative internationally recognized by UNESCO as a Demonstration Site for Ecohydrology. The meeting reaffirmed the value of more than two decades of collaboration between ESPOL and local communities to strengthen water management and build local capacity.

The 2026 FICT Alumni Reunion brought together approximately 120 graduates from different classes to strengthen their ties with the School, share their achievements, and explore new opportunities for collaboration that integrate the alumni’s professional experience into the education and inspiration of new generations.

Civil engineering students expanded their knowledge of best construction practices through a technical presentation that addressed the prevention of errors on construction sites, the proper use of materials, and criteria for improving the quality, efficiency, and sustainability of projects.

FICT is strengthening its international cooperation to expand academic and professional opportunities for its students through the Pioneers of Engineering program, forging partnerships with universities, companies, and technology centers in Spain to promote training opportunities, internships, and future joint initiatives.

FICT and FCSH strengthened their collaboration to promote interdisciplinary academic initiatives that integrate engineering, territorial planning, urban planning, and the social sciences, expanding educational opportunities and fostering innovative solutions for the sustainable development of cities and territories.

FICT and the University of Oviedo are promoting new international cooperation efforts in the geosciences through joint research, training, and academic exchange initiatives, thereby strengthening opportunities for students and faculty and promoting projects with scientific impact.

FICT participated in the second edition of the ESPOL 2026 College Rankings, strengthening its ties with educational institutions and promoting its academic programs to introduce more students to educational opportunities in Geosciences engineering.

FICT-ESPOL and Rey Juan Carlos University strengthened their academic cooperation through a technical meeting held from May 26 to 28, 2026. The agenda included a visit to the “Water Sowing, Harvesting, and Reuse for Sustainability (Phase II)” project in Manglaralto, where equipment valued at approximately 10,000 euros was donated. In addition, both institutions reviewed research topics and scientific articles to be developed jointly. Looking ahead, they plan to launch a research project and produce two scientific publications in international collaboration over the next 18 months.

The Mining Program at FICT-ESPOL held a training session on the 1Mentor by QS platform, aimed at strengthening its students’ professional profiles and aligning their education with the current demands of the mining industry. During the workshop, participants used tools based on artificial intelligence and labor market data to explore career opportunities, identify required competencies, and recognize skill gaps. The event was organized by the Mining Coordination Office, with support from Nadia Lagasca, M.Sc., and the SME-ESPOL Student Chapter.
