FICT-ESPOL participated in a Holcim event focused on the circular economy and decarbonization, where initiatives such as waste co-processing and strategies to reduce the industry’s carbon footprint were presented. This event strengthened the ties between academia and industry on sustainability issues.

ESPOL participated in a study published in Sustainability that proposes a sustainable waste management model for the community of Sahuangal. The research outlines a technically and economically viable composting and recycling system aimed at reducing the environmental impact in rural areas.

ESPOL is conducting a research project on the Cretaceous–Paleogene boundary in the La Prosperina Protected Forest, focusing on its geopatrimonial assessment and the development of strategies for geotourism, geoconservation, and geoeducation. The initiative aims to strengthen scientific knowledge and promote awareness of geological heritage.

Dr. Natividad García Troncoso served as a speaker at CEINCI LAB, presenting recent developments in bridge vibration control using tuned mass dampers, thereby strengthening academic exchange in structural engineering.

Civil engineering students from FICT-ESPOL took fourth place in the 3rd Plastigama Wavin Hydraulic Design Competition, standing out among 40 teams nationwide; their project proposed eco-efficient solutions for water management in rural schools, integrating access to drinking water, wastewater treatment, and green infrastructure with social and environmental benefits.

The Civil Engineering program at FICT held a workshop to review and update academic competencies and content, aligning them with the current demands of the professional world. During the meeting, key training criteria were analyzed alongside international benchmarks, helping to strengthen an approach focused on problem-solving, innovation, and sustainability. This process helps ensure a high-quality education that is relevant and in line with the challenges of development.

An academic conference focused on the exchange of experiences in geophysics, geomatics, and sustainability was held at the Polytechnic University of Madrid. During the event, participants analyzed educational approaches, research areas, and regional challenges, as well as identifying opportunities for collaboration in strategic areas. The participation of Engineer Joselyne Solórzano reinforces the commitment to internationalization and the building of academic networks that promote research and professional training.

Researchers at FICT-ESPOL published a study that uses artificial intelligence and computer vision to measure actual loads on buildings in real time, thereby optimizing their structural design; the pilot study showed that these loads may be lower than those estimated by traditional codes, opening up opportunities to reduce costs and improve construction efficiency.

The workshop titled “Electric Mobility: Regulations for Electric Vehicle Charging Stations” was held in Quito at the offices of the German development agency GIZ.
