Maurizio Mulas, Ph.D., professor and researcher at ESPOL’s Faculty of Geosciences Engineering (FICT), serves as the lead editor of the “Volcanoes of Ecuador and the Northern Andes: Eruptive Dynamics, Hazards, and Societal Impact” Topic Editorial Board for the scientific journal *Frontiers in Earth Science*, a publication specializing in research related to Earth sciences.
This Topic Editorial Board aims to bring together high-level scientific contributions on eruptive dynamics, magmatic systems, volcanic monitoring, and studies related to volcanic hazards and risks in the Northern Andes. The initiative will help integrate knowledge about the volcanoes in this region and strengthen collaboration among researchers dedicated to the study of volcanic activity in South America.
The participation of a FICT researcher in this editorial initiative helps strengthen ESPOL’s presence in international scientific communities and creates opportunities for the exchange of knowledge among specialists from different countries. It also promotes the dissemination of research aimed at understanding volcanic processes and their potential impacts on society.
Studies on eruptive dynamics, hazards, and volcanic risk are important for improving scientific understanding of these phenomena and providing information that can be taken into account in risk monitoring and management processes. In this context, participation in international scientific initiatives allows research conducted in Ecuador to be linked to regional discussions and collaborations.
The initiative also strengthens relationships among researchers in South American countries dedicated to the study of volcanoes, promoting the generation and dissemination of knowledge about the volcanic systems of the Northern Andes.
