Civil Engineering Students Learn About Pumping Systems for Buildings

Civil Engineering Students Deepen Their Understanding of Pumping Systems Through a Technical Visit

Civil engineering students from FICT-ESPOL took a technical field trip to the La Llave facilities in Guayaquil as part of the “Building Systems / Instalaciones” course, with the aim of supplementing the knowledge they acquired in the classroom by gaining hands-on experience with equipment and solutions used in building pumping systems.

During the visit, the students learned about various pieces of equipment and solutions associated with pumping systems, as well as aspects related to their application, selection, and installation in building projects. The experience allowed them to connect the course content with real-world situations and technologies encountered in professional practice.

The activity was coordinated by Ingrid Orta Zambrano, M.Sc., a professor of the “Building Systems / Instalaciones” course at ESPOL, and featured the participation of Omar Rodríguez, a professional from La Llave, who led the technical presentation and the tour of the facilities.

Direct contact with equipment and professionals in the sector allowed students to broaden their understanding of building systems and recognize technical criteria they will need to consider in the design and application of these solutions during their future professional practice.

The visit is part of the course’s strategy to supplement theoretical instruction with field trips, specialized lectures, and opportunities to interact with companies in the sector. These experiences reinforce experiential learning and expose future civil engineers to the solutions available for infrastructure and building projects.

Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs)

SDG 4: Quality Education. For strengthening vocational training through practical experiences linked to the productive sector.

SDG 9: Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure. By introducing students to technologies and solutions applied to building systems and infrastructure.

SDG 11: Sustainable Cities and Communities. By contributing to the training of professionals involved in the design and operation of buildings and urban infrastructure.
