The FICT Mining Program held an academic planning and strategic follow-up meeting to review progress, opportunities for improvement, and actions aimed at strengthening the program. During the session, participants discussed topics related to employability, accreditation, improvement plans, and the development of the future Master’s program in Sustainable Use of Mineral Resources.

Engineer Victoria Rosado, from the Faculty of Geosciences Engineering (FICT) at the Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral, successfully completed the “Data-Driven Decisions Specialist” bootcamp, strengthening her skills in data analysis, artificial intelligence, and evidence-based decision-making, as part of a national initiative launched in partnership with the Ministry of Telecommunications and the Information Society.

ESPOL's FICT held a workshop to share updates on the 1Mentor platform and employability tools. During the event, AI-based solutions were presented to identify in-demand skills, bridge skill gaps, and build personalized learning paths. Additionally, global labor market trends and the evolution of professional profiles were analyzed. The initiative strengthens students’ preparation for a dynamic work environment by integrating technology, data, and strategic vision into their education.

The international academic mobility experience offers ESPOL students a comprehensive educational opportunity. Adrián Patricio Álvarez Reyes, now an ESPOL alumnus, participated in the Erasmus+ KA171 program, spending a semester at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, Spain, in 2025, where he strengthened his academic skills and enhanced his career prospects in the field of mining engineering.

Researchers from FICT-ESPOL conducted a study on occupational exposure to heavy metals and agrochemicals in the Santa Rosa canton, providing evidence to support occupational risk prevention in agricultural settings.

Graduates of the Master’s in Civil Engineering program at FICT-ESPOL developed a BIM implementation plan for the Municipality of Quinsaloma, bringing innovation to improve the planning and management of public works.

The Faculty of Earth Geosciences Engineering at ESPOL participated in the Ecuadorian Commission for UNESCO Geoparks in Quito, presenting updates on geopark projects and strengthening collaboration among academia, the public sector, and international organizations.

In an analysis for Teleamazonas, M.Sc. Freddy Carrión, a research professor at FICT-ESPOL, described this news as a strategic success toward meeting the country's production goals. Carrión emphasized that, to ensure a sustainable impact, it is essential to attract high-tech foreign investment. This would allow not only for crude oil extraction but also for increasing oil reserves in response to the natural depletion of mature fields.
