FICT's Mining Program Analyzes Progress and Strategic Actions for 2026

Strategic Planning and Continuous Improvement to Strengthen Mining Education

ESPOL’s Faculty of Geosciences Engineering (FICT) held a meeting for the Mining program as part of the PAO 2025 II on April 29, 2026, in the Dean’s Office conference room. The in-person event brought together administrators, program coordinators, and academic support staff to review the program’s current status and define actions aimed at strengthening it.

During the meeting, the institutional and academic guidelines planned for the year were shared, along with a presentation of the FICT Strategic Plan and the 2025 Improvement Plan. In addition, topics related to the employability of students and graduates, early entry into the workforce, feedback from the 2025 Advisory Committee, and improvement actions planned for 2026 were discussed.

The session also provided an opportunity to review the program’s Educational Objectives and the minimum course content for the proposed Master’s Degree in Sustainable Use of Mineral Resources. This analysis aims to strengthen the alignment between undergraduate and graduate programs in response to the current needs of the mining sector and academic quality assurance processes.

The event was organized by the Mining Program’s coordination team and was attended by the dean of FICT, the program coordinator, accreditation and internship coordinators, as well as laboratory technicians. This meeting facilitated internal coordination, the identification of priority areas for improvement, and the planning of strategic actions that contribute to the program’s relevance and quality.

Through these types of forums, FICT strengthens its commitment to the continuous improvement of its academic programs, the development of new graduate programs, and the training of professionals aligned with the needs of the productive sector and the country’s sustainable development.
