The career path of Geanella Herrera Narváez, a graduate of the Faculty of Geosciences Engineering (FICT), reflects an educational program that not only builds knowledge but also encourages its students to pursue opportunities on the global stage. She is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Geological Engineering with a specialization in Hydrogeology in Turkey, thanks to a scholarship awarded by her government.
Her story is not merely an international academic experience; it is evidence of a solid foundation that has enabled her to adapt to new methodologies, meet high-level academic demands, and thrive in multicultural contexts.
“The academic training I received at ESPOL was essential for taking on new challenges in an international context,” Geanella emphasizes. Today, that training translates into applied knowledge, critical thinking, and a broader vision of the role of engineering in the world.
Beyond the technical component, her experience has strengthened key skills: learning a new language, cultural adaptation, and active participation in diverse academic environments, representing Ecuador with commitment and excellence.
Her time at the Center for Research and Applied Projects in Geosciences (CIPAT) marked the beginning of her journey in research. “I am grateful to FICT and CIPAT, where I trained as a researcher, for laying the foundation for my growth and for motivating me to seek opportunities that transcend borders. We still keep in touch and work together on research,” she said.
Geanella’s story reminds us that engineering isn’t limited to the classroom. It’s built on every opportunity taken, every boundary crossed, and every challenge overcome.
Studying at FICT means opening yourself up to the world. It means thinking big. It means bringing engineering to life.
