The Faculty of Geosciences Engineering (FICT) and the Center for Research and Applied Projects Geosciences (CIPAT) stood out at the IEEE Technology and Engineering Management Society Conference (TEMSCON LATAM 2026), one of the most important international conferences on engineering and technology management in Latin America. The conference took place from June 24 to 26, 2026, at the Hilton Colón Quito Hotel, bringing together researchers, academics, and professionals from various countries.
ESPOL was represented by Josué Briones Bitar, Ph.D. (c), a researcher at FICT, and Luis Pacheco Bautista, M.Sc. (c), a researcher at CIPAT, who presented three research projects focused on environmental management, sustainable development, and innovation in engineering. Their participation strengthened the university’s presence in international scientific forums and promoted the exchange of knowledge with specialists from the region.
During the conference, the following papers were presented: “Service-Learning and the Integration of Technology in the Community Management of Coastal Aquifers: From Outreach to Social Innovation,” “Community Management of Water Services and its Impact on Health through Econometric Modeling: A Case Study of Manglaralto Parish,” and "A Comparative Analysis of Cost and Time Between Traditional Construction Methods and Drywall for Interior Walls: A Case Study.” These studies address challenges related to community-based water management, social innovation, and efficiency in construction processes.
One of the main achievements of the conference was the recognition of the paper “A Comparative Analysis of Cost and Time Between Traditional Construction Methods and Drywall for Interior Walls: A Case Study,” which was named Best Paper in the “Program and Project Management” track. The paper was authored by Josué Briones Bitar, Ph.D. (c.), Luis Pacheco Bautista, M.Sc. (c.), Paúl Carrión-Mero, Ph.D., and Fernando Morante-Carballo, Ph.D., and was recognized for its contribution to the comparative analysis of construction methods and its applicability to project management.
As part of the academic agenda, the researchers also held a working meeting with Carlos Hernández Cenzano, a professor and researcher at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru and coordinator of the CYTED network “RED LIVIA: Latin American and Iberian Network for Sustainable Design Based on Data Science, Surveillance, and Artificial Intelligence for SMEs in the Agro-Industrial Metalworking Sector,” with whom they co-authored two of the three papers presented. This meeting helped strengthen scientific cooperation between the two institutions and establish new avenues for joint work on future research projects
Participation in IEEE TEMSCON LATAM 2026 demonstrates FICT and CIPAT’s commitment to research excellence, internationalization, and collaborative work, consolidating strategic alliances that strengthen knowledge generation and the search for innovative solutions to environmental, social, and technological challenges, in line with ESPOL’s mission.
