The Faculty of Geosciences Engineering (FICT) at the Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL) officially unveiled the “Ingeniería VIVA” murals, an artistic installation located on the exterior walls of the Dean’s Office building (13A) and building 13F, conceived as a space for identity, inspiration, and gathering for its academic community.
The inauguration took place on June 19, 2026, and brought together faculty officials, representatives of the FICT Student Association (AEFICT), delegations from student chapters along with their advisors, faculty members, students, and collaborators who were part of this initiative, as well as the team from MULTIFORMATO, the managing partner that made the project possible.
The day began with a meeting with student representatives from the college, during which FICT’s performance indicators for the first semester of the year were presented, along with projects to be implemented for the benefit of the academic community. To conclude the event, the officials and attendees proceeded to the renovated space for the official unveiling of the murals, in a ceremony that highlighted the value of building a faculty that is more accessible, participatory, and visually representative of its essence.
During the event, the dean of FICT, Paúl Carrión, Ph.D., addressed the attendees and encouraged students to actively engage with their college by participating in initiatives that strengthen their sense of belonging and help beautify the spaces that are part of their college life. In his remarks, he emphasized the importance of promoting initiatives that will make FICT a model for present and future generations.
For his part, mural artist Gabriel Peña (GABO) expressed his gratitude for the opportunity to capture FICT’s vision through this artwork and acknowledged the commitment of the team that supported him throughout the process of creating and executing the murals.
The official inauguration of the space took place with a ribbon-cutting ceremony attended by FICT officials, the artist, and representatives from MULTIFORMATO, marking the symbolic opening of a project that seeks to redefine the university environment through art and collective participation.
The “Ingeniería VIVA” murals were created with the goal of strengthening FICT’s identity, beautifying its spaces, and reflecting the contribution of its degree programs—Geology, Mining, Petroleum, and Civil Engineering—to society. Beyond its aesthetic dimension, the project serves as a visual expression of the faculty’s commitment to training professionals capable of developing solutions, coexisting with their environment, and making an impact through science and engineering.
Through this initiative, FICT seeks to connect with the dreams and aspirations of young people, offering them a message of purpose, action, inclusion, and sustainability. “Ingeniería Viva” thus becomes a symbol of the college and its community: a reminder that knowledge also transforms spaces, inspires new generations, and leaves its mark on university life.
The event also served as an opportunity to recognize the contributions of the artist, his studio assistants, and the student collaborators from FICT and the Faculty of Art, Design, and Audiovisual Communication (FADCOM), whose joint efforts made this initiative a reality.
With this inauguration, FICT reaffirms its commitment to creating spaces that integrate education, identity, culture, and student participation, promoting a college experience that is more personal, inspiring, and connected to the future.
