During the opening of the event, Silvia Loaiza, Ph.D., coordinator of the Mining Program, highlighted the importance of leveraging these tools to identify the skills most in demand by the sector and strategically guide the preparation of future professionals.
During the workshop, participants learned about the main features of 1Mentor by QS, a platform that uses artificial intelligence and labor market data to explore career paths, identify the skills required by employers, and pinpoint potential skill gaps.
As part of the hands-on session, students registered on the platform, filled out the initial information for their profiles, and explored career options related to their education, interests, and strengths. They also identified the skills required for the positions they were interested in and potential learning opportunities to enhance their employability.
The event was organized by the Mining Program Coordination Office, with the support of Nadia Lagasca, M.Sc., who served as the workshop facilitator, and the SME-ESPOL Student Chapter as co-organizer.
This initiative is part of the efforts led by the Mining Program to align academic training with the current needs of the workplace and to provide students with tools that enable them to make informed decisions about their professional future.
