FICT hosts RELEX to strengthen agreement management and foster strategic partnerships

FICT Strengthens Agreement Management with a Strategic and Institutional Approach

As part of its commitment to continuous improvement and the strengthening of its institutional processes, the Faculty of Geosciences Engineering (FICT) held an informational session on agreement management, in collaboration with ESPOL’s Office of External Relations and Corporate Engagement (RELEX).

The event featured the participation of William Herrera, RELEX manager, along with analysts Alexandra Sánchez and Romina Cueva, who presented the main guidelines, processes, and tools governing agreement management at the institution.

During the meeting, key aspects were addressed, such as the types of agreements—including memorandums of understanding (MOUs), framework agreements, specific agreements, and adhesion agreements—as well as their strategic role in the development of the university’s core functions: teaching, research, and outreach. It was emphasized that an agreement constitutes a formal and voluntary arrangement between parties, aimed at generating academic and scientific value through cooperation.

Institutional procedures for requesting, monitoring, and closing agreements were also shared, emphasizing the importance of orderly, documented management aligned with regulations. It was also noted that agreements in foreign languages must be submitted for translation through the Office of the Dean of Research.

The forum allowed FICT staff members, in their role as grant administrators, to raise concerns and share experiences, thereby contributing to the improvement of processes and the strengthening of institutional management.

In terms of scope, the strategic importance of these partnerships was evident: ESPOL currently has 1,921 active agreements, of which 172 are with the FICT, comprising 118 pre-professional internship agreements and 54 general agreements. Of these, 33 are domestic and 21 are international.

The session concluded with a call to strengthen the monitoring and reporting of progress on the agreement platform, as well as to ensure their proper closure through the corresponding minutes, thereby guaranteeing their traceability and effectiveness.
