ESPOL’s Faculty of Geosciences Engineering (FICT) hosted the Ecuadorian Council for Sustainable Building (CEES) on July 17, 2026, with the aim of strengthening collaborative ties between the two institutions and identifying opportunities for joint work in sustainability, resilience, sustainable construction, water management, and academic and community engagement projects.
During the meeting, representatives from FICT and CEES presented their institutions’ main areas of focus and shared initiatives in research, teaching, and community engagement. They also explored mechanisms for cooperation on future activities, events, projects, and training programs aimed at promoting sustainable development and training professionals committed to addressing the country’s environmental and urban challenges.
This initiative is part of CEES’s strategy to strengthen its collaborative network with higher education institutions in the city of Guayaquil. As a result of the meeting, both institutions agreed to maintain a work plan that will enable them to advance joint initiatives with academic and social impact, contributing to the development of sustainable solutions through higher education.
Representing FICT were the acting dean, Kenny Escobar, M.Eng.; the coordinator of the Civil Engineering program, Paulina Vilela, Ph.D.; the communications coordinator, Carola Gordillo, Ph.D. (c); Professor and Researcher Natividad García, Ph.D.; and Professor Cristian Salas, M.Sc. Representing the Ecuadorian Council for Sustainable Building was its Executive Director, Jhoana García, M.Sc.
Strengthening these types of partnerships contributes to the exchange of knowledge and experiences that benefit students and faculty, while promoting the development of projects with the potential to generate sustainable solutions for the community and the country’s productive sector.
