On July 31, 2026, the ESPOL Sustainable Development Club held a social gathering in the green space of the Faculty of Geosciences Engineering, with the aim of strengthening bonds among its members, welcoming new members, and encouraging more active participation in the Club’s initiatives.
The event brought together students from various degree programs, who participated in recreational activities designed to promote camaraderie, communication, and teamwork. In a dynamic and welcoming atmosphere, attendees were able to get to know one another, share experiences, and exchange ideas about their interests and expectations within the Club.
During the event, the board of the Sustainable Development Club was introduced. It consists of Nagelly Paulina Ortiz Oviedo, president of the CDS and a student in the Product Design program (FADCOM); Dhalmar Daniella Baque Torres, vice president and a Biology major (FCV); and Doris Pazmiño Bodero, secretary and a Nutrition major (FCV).
Johanna Zambrano Anchundia, M.Sc., the Club’s advisor and a professor in the Petroleum Engineering program at FICT, was also introduced. She supports and guides the initiatives developed by the Club’s members, promoting student participation and the creation of proposals related to sustainability.
The diversity of professional backgrounds represented both on the board and among the members reflects the Club’s multidisciplinary nature. This variety of knowledge, experiences, and perspectives allows us to address environmental, social, economic, and governance challenges in a more comprehensive manner, incorporating scientific, creative, technical, and well-being components.
In addition to strengthening a sense of belonging, these gatherings contribute to the development of skills that complement academic training, such as effective communication, leadership, empathy, organization, creativity, and the ability to work with people from different disciplines.
The team-building afternoon reaffirmed that a university education is also built outside the classroom, through experiences that foster camaraderie, participation, and the exchange of ideas. These opportunities help build closer-knit and more collaborative teams, prepared to design and carry out initiatives that make an impact both within and outside the ESPOL community.
Through this activity, ESPOL’s Sustainable Development Club continues to strengthen a diverse, engaged student community committed to developing solutions that promote societal well-being and environmental stewardship.
