As part of the activities of the ESPOL Student Chapter of the Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE), a technical talk titled “Production Optimization through Re-blasting and Stimulation” was held. This academic event was designed to strengthen the knowledge of Petroleum Engineering students in the Faculty of Geosciences Engineering (FICT) regarding the techniques used in the oil industry to increase productivity and reservoir recovery.
The event took place on June 24, 2026, in a hybrid format, featuring Estefi Batallas, M.Sc., a production engineer, who shared her professional experience and the technical knowledge she has acquired within the industry.
During the conference, the technical fundamentals, selection criteria, implementation process, and impact of re-casing and well stimulation were discussed as strategies for optimizing hydrocarbon production. In addition, Andrés Guzmán, M.Sc., Faculty Advisor for the SPE-ESPOL Chapter, facilitated an interactive session where students and faculty members of the program could ask questions and share their experiences with Batallas, which served to complement the technical presentation.
The initiative reflects the collaboration between the SPE-ESPOL Student Chapter and FICT to strengthen the ties between academia and the professional sector. Opportunities like this help students gain firsthand knowledge of the technologies and practices used in the energy industry, enhancing their academic training and preparing them for the challenges of the hydrocarbons sector.
