With the aim of facilitating the transition to university life and laying the foundations for professional training excellence, the Petroleum Engineering Program Coordination Office of the Faculty of Geosciences Engineering (FICT) held a comprehensive welcome day for its newly admitted students.

This event not only marked the beginning of their academic journey, but also served as an opportunity to immerse themselves in the fundamental pillars of the industry and polytechnic life.

Immersion in Industry and Academia

During the day, new students received a technical talk on the oil industry value chain, from exploration and production (Upstream) to refining and transportation (Downstream). This approach aims to help students understand, from day one, the macroeconomic and social impact of their profession.

In addition, a detailed breakdown of the curriculum was provided, emphasizing the skills they will develop in areas such as geology, reservoir engineering, and energy sustainability.

Hands-on Experience from Day One

One of the highlights was the first introduction to laboratory testing. Unlike a traditional welcome, FICT prioritized contact with the technical environment:

  • Laboratory tour: Students visited the facilities where they will perform drilling fluid testing and crude oil characterization.

  • Technical demonstrations: They had the opportunity to observe basic procedures, reinforcing the practical and experimental nature that characterizes ESPOL.

Strengthening the Polytechnic Community

The day went beyond academics with team-building activities designed to break the ice and encourage teamwork. The active participation of teachers and administrators allowed students to identify their mentors and guides, reducing the hierarchical gap and strengthening their sense of belonging.

"We want students to see FICT not only as a place of study, but also as their community. Motivation and initial support are key to reducing dropout rates and promoting academic success",  said faculty members of the program.

Towards Comprehensive Education

This initiative aligns with FICT's vision of training professionals with comprehensive training, capable of responding to the challenges of energy transition and operational efficiency. By integrating academia, technology, and recreation, ESPOL reaffirms its commitment to being an ecosystem of growth for the country's young talent.
