As part of the recent graduation ceremony for civil engineers at ESPOL's Faculty of Geosciences Engineering (FICT), a symbolic gesture was made that reflects the international outlook and technical commitment that characterizes our students.
Participation in the Ibero-Latin American Asphalt Congress
In November 2025, David Vélez and Jorge Villón participated in the XXIII Ibero-Latin American Asphalt Congress (CILA), held in Paraguay, one of the most important events in the region in the field of asphalt materials and pavement engineering. This congress brings together specialists, academics, and professionals to exchange experiences, promote joint research, and strengthen regional cooperation.
Professional identity and regional projection
The experience allowed them to broaden their technical vision, delve deeper into new technologies, and consolidate their interest in the area of pavements, a strategic specialty for the development of sustainable infrastructure.
During the graduation ceremony, Jorge commemorated this experience alongside David by taking a photo wearing the representative CILA hats, reaffirming their identity as “Cileros.” More than just a detail, this gesture symbolizes a sense of professional belonging and connection to a technical community with regional reach.

Alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals
This experience contributes to the fulfillment of:
SDGs 4 – Quality Education, by promoting comprehensive training and active participation in high-level international academic spaces.
SDGs 17 – Partnerships for the Goals, by fostering academic and professional cooperation between countries, universities, and the productive sector.
