With the approval of the research project “Pedestrian WAY: Pedestrian Infrastructure for a Sustainable Campus,” we are taking a step toward a new way of experiencing the campus: one that is more human-centered, more connected, and more mindful of its surroundings.
Pedestrian WAY is an initiative aimed at strengthening pedestrian mobility on ESPOL’s Prosperina Campus. The project seeks to improve connectivity and walkability within the campus, promoting safer, more accessible, and more comfortable routes for the university community. Its proposal incorporates sustainable drainage criteria, low-environmental-impact materials, landscape integration, and solutions adapted to the environment.
In the first phase, the plan involves surveying and characterizing strategic paths that connect key areas of the campus, with the goal of structuring an integrated network of functional, environmental, and educational trails.
The project is aligned with a broader vision: to consolidate the campus as a leader in sustainability, linking it to the proposal to designate the campus lake system as a UNESCO ecohydrology demonstration site, thereby contributing to ESPOL’s positioning as a leader in environmental innovation.
