ESPOL’s Faculty of Geosciences Engineering (FICT) received specialized teaching materials donated by Tecnovoladuras S.A. as part of an initiative aimed at strengthening the practical training of mining students. The ceremony, held on July 14, 2026, at the Faculty’s facilities, establishes a partnership and joint commitment between academia and the private sector to develop professional skills for the mining industry.
The materials donated include inert technical samples designed to complement learning in the areas of drilling and blasting. These resources will enable students to deepen their understanding and application of fundamental concepts from their academic training through hands-on experiences aligned with the needs and practices of the industry.
The handover ceremony was attended by Kenny Escobar, M.Sc., Associate Dean of FICT; Silvia Loaiza, Ph.D., Coordinator of the Mining program; and Cecibel Castillo, M.Sc., Coordinator of the Petroleum Engineering program, who received the materials on behalf of the Faculty. Representing Tecnovoladuras S.A. were Diego Cortéz, Kevin Jumbo, and Jean Orozco, who delivered the materials and met with the academic officials.
During the visit, the coordinator of the Mining Engineering program and company representatives held an initial meeting to coordinate the development of a training program for students. This workshop-style activity will focus on the use of instructional materials and the practical application of concepts related to drilling and blasting, promoting learning that more closely reflects the realities of the mining industry.
The initiative highlights the value of partnerships between the university and the private sector in promoting high-quality academic training, in line with Sustainable Development Goal 4. It also opens opportunities to continue developing joint activities that contribute to strengthening students’ technical skills and preparing them to meet the challenges of the mining sector.
