International Fellowship Strengthens FICT's Geotechnical Research Capabilities

International Cooperation Helps Strengthen Geotechnical Laboratories at FICT

ESPOL’s Faculty of Geosciences Engineering (FICT) strengthened its research capabilities through an academic visit to the Geotechnical Engineering Laboratory at the Polytechnic University of Madrid, which took place from April 15 to May 10, 2026. The purpose of this visit was to evaluate specialized equipment and instrumentation for possible implementation in the institution’s laboratories.

During the visit, various pieces of equipment and methodologies used in the laboratory were reviewed, allowing for an analysis of their applicability within ESPOL’s academic and research context. This process helps identify opportunities for improvement in geotechnical analyses and for strengthening the Faculty’s scientific infrastructure.

The initiative contributes to the development of technical and academic capabilities, benefiting students and faculty by providing access to better tools for applied research. It also promotes the updating of practices in the geotechnical field, aligned with international standards and focused on solving real-world problems.

This experience is part of institutional efforts to promote international cooperation as a strategic pillar for academic and scientific strengthening. In this context, we would like to acknowledge the support of Dr. Rubén Galindo and Dr. Fausto Molina, who contributed to the organization of this visit and to the exchange of knowledge between the two institutions.
