The Petroleum Engineering program at ESPOL’s Faculty of Geosciences Engineering (FICT) organized an academic meeting to share experiences in professional training in the energy sector. The event took place on Tuesday, July 14, 2026, at the FICT campus and featured the participation of David León, Ph.D., a professor and researcher in the Energy program at the Polytechnic University of Madrid (UPM).
The purpose of the meeting was to strengthen international academic cooperation and create a space for dialogue on the training of professionals in the energy sector. The meeting was attended by Cecibel Castillo, M.Sc., coordinator of the Petroleum Engineering program, and faculty members from the program, who analyzed different curricular approaches, professional competencies, and training trends related to the energy transition, renewable energy, sustainability, and technological innovation.
As part of the event, participants compared academic models, shared best practices implemented at both institutions, and exchanged ideas aimed at strengthening educational processes. This initiative, spearheaded by FICT’s Petroleum Engineering program, helps to strengthen international cooperation ties that enrich academic training and promote a comprehensive view of the energy sector’s current and future challenges, benefiting students, faculty, and higher education.
