Civil Engineering Students Enhance Their Training in Industrial Floor Protection with SIKA

As part of the SIKA Chair, civil engineering students from ESPOL’s Faculty of Geosciences Engineering (FICT) took a technical field trip to SIKA Ecuador’s facilities in Durán to participate in Module 6: Protection of Industrial Floors. The event, held on July 10, 2026, complemented the students’ academic training by introducing them to innovative technologies and solutions applied to construction and infrastructure projects.

During the activity, the students toured the SIKA Ecuador plant and learned about the processes involved in the development, production, and application of industrial floor protection systems. In addition, they participated in a technical presentation given by Marcelo Jarrín, a product engineer at SIKA Ecuador, who outlined the characteristics, advantages, and selection criteria for various protection and coating systems used in infrastructure projects, industrial facilities, and high-traffic areas. The visit was also accompanied by Kevin Joel Loor Figueroa, a laboratory technician at ESPOL.

The experience included presentations of case studies and demonstrations of products used in real-world projects, allowing participants to gain an understanding of aspects related to the performance, durability, maintenance, and application of specialized construction solutions. In addition, the students deepened their knowledge of the technical criteria for selecting innovative materials intended for the rehabilitation, repair, and protection of industrial surfaces.

The collaboration between the university and SIKA Ecuador strengthens the technical skills of future civil engineers, promoting an education aligned with industry needs and training professionals capable of addressing the challenges of sustainable development.
