As part of a technical and research visit conducted in March, the Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL), together with the Faculty of Geosciences Engineering (FICT), paid a technical visit to the Faculty of Geology at the University of Oviedo in Spain. The agenda included a working meeting and technical activities related to the FICT-013-2023 project, “Study of Ground Deformation using DInSAR in the area of influence of the Paute Integral Hydroelectric Complex.”
During the visit, engineer Daniel Garcés, a professor at FICT and co-director of the project, met with professor and researcher José Cuervas Mons, a project collaborator. During this meeting, they reviewed the progress of the research and carried out technical activities, strengthening the scientific foundation of the study.
Additionally, a strategic meeting was held with the participation of Dr. Carlos López Fernández, dean of the Faculty of Geology at the University of Oviedo. Representing ESPOL were the Vice Rector for Teaching, Dr. Paola Romero; Andrea Hermenejildo, advisor to the Vice Rector for Teaching at ESPOL; and Professor Daniel Garcés. This meeting addressed opportunities to coordinate institutional efforts that promote technical and research development in the field of geosciences.
This collaboration between the two institutions aims to promote innovation in key areas of geology by integrating the technical capabilities of both institutions. In addition, it strengthens opportunities for academic exchange that encourage student and faculty participation in international projects.
As a result, plans are underway to establish a long-term cooperation framework that facilitates academic mobility, the development of joint theses, and the exchange of best practices, to the benefit of academic training and impactful applied research.
