ESPOL’s Faculty of Geosciences Engineering (FICT) successfully held the course “Traditional and Contemporary Structures: Inspection, Monitoring, and Digital Techniques (DIC and Photogrammetry),” an academic initiative that strengthened the skills of students and professionals in the use of cutting-edge technologies for the evaluation, inspection, and monitoring of structures.
The event was organized by the Master’s Program in Seismic-Resistant Civil Structures and was made possible through the Erasmus+ KA171 Program, under the coordination of Natividad García Troncoso, Ph.D. This program facilitated the academic visit of Dr. Albert Cabané Cañas, a professor and researcher at the Polytechnic University of Catalonia (UPC), who shared his experience and knowledge with the university community.
During the course, participants learned about state-of-the-art tools for evaluating structural behavior, including Digital Image Correlation (DIC), photogrammetry applied to structural engineering, and advanced techniques for inspecting and monitoring existing structures. These methodologies help optimize infrastructure diagnostic, maintenance, and management processes, strengthening the technical skills of the attendees.
Dr. Albert Cabané Cañas’s visit extended beyond the academic sphere by strengthening the ties of cooperation between ESPOL and the Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya. This exchange opens up new opportunities for the development of joint research projects, academic mobility, and future international collaborations that drive knowledge generation and innovation in structural engineering.
