FICT Professor to Serve as International Speaker at CILA Monterrey 2026

Professor Carola Gordillo outside the FICT

Carola Gordillo, MSc., a professor in the Faculty of Geosciences Engineering (FICT) at ESPOL, has been invited to participate as a speaker at the CILA Monterrey 2026 Conference, an international technical meeting focused on analyzing trends and advancements in road infrastructure, pavements, and sustainability.

The invitation was extended by the Certified Responsible Professionals (PRC) Working Group as part of the activities stemming from the 23rd Ibero-Latin American Asphalt Congress (CILA), held in Asunción, Paraguay, in November 2025.

The event will take place on May 21 and 22, 2026, in Monterrey, Mexico, and will bring together specialists, researchers, institutional representatives, and professionals involved in the design, construction, maintenance, and management of road infrastructure in Ibero-America.

During her presentation, Engineer Gordillo will present a report titled: “Development of Sustainable and Climate-Resilient Road Infrastructure.”

The report includes a technical analysis of 23 research papers presented at the 23rd CILA Paraguay 2025, addressing topics related to road resilience, land-use planning, asset management, pavement performance, artificial intelligence, road digitization, and material sustainability.

In this context, the rapporteur’s role is to organize, interpret, and synthesize dispersed technical knowledge, identifying trends, challenges, and opportunities that help guide future decisions regarding engineering, research, and public policy.
The professor’s participation reflects FICT’s commitment to generating and disseminating scientific and technical knowledge with international reach, as well as to strengthening academic and professional networks in the field of sustainable infrastructure.
It also highlights the contribution of Ecuadorian civil engineering to the technical debate on climate adaptation, road network resilience, and digital transformation applied to transportation.
