The Faculty of Geosciences Engineering (FICT) participated in the Competency-Based Curriculum Design Process, organized by ESPOL’s Office of the Vice President for Academic Affairs and the Comprehensive Center for Educational Services (CISE), whose closing session took place on Thursday, August 13, in the Auditorium of the School of Natural Sciences and Mathematics (FCNM).
The process took place from May 8, 2025, to July 17, 2026, with the participation of faculty members, including department heads, program coordinators, and accreditation coordinators. During this period, participants deepened their understanding of the professional competencies approach to curriculum design, planning, and updating for the degree programs.
The purpose of the closing session was to recognize the commitment of the faculty members who participated in this initiative and to create a space to reflect on the lessons learned. As part of the event, a motivational video was presented by Manuel Unigarro Gutiérrez, the process facilitator, who emphasized the importance of continuing to strengthen the development of competency-based curriculum programs.
As part of the event, a discussion forum was organized, providing a space for participants to share their thoughts on continuing the work already undertaken and consolidating the competency-based approach in curriculum design and update processes.
For FICT, the participation of its academic team helps foster ongoing reflection on educational processes and their development from a professional competency perspective, in support of relevant, high-quality university education.
