On August 8, graduates of the Faculty of Geosciences Engineering (FICT) reunited with ESPOL during the FICT Alumni Gathering 2026, an event that brought together approximately 120 professionals from different generations, ranging from the class of 1982 to 2024. The event provided an opportunity to reconnect with classmates and faculty members and learn about the projects currently being pursued by the School.
The event was attended by ESPOL’s president, Cecilia Paredes, Ph.D., who emphasized the importance of creating opportunities to maintain close ties with graduates. In this context, she noted that the alumni’s professional trajectories are one of the main ways in which the University demonstrates its impact on society.
One of the topics addressed was the expansion of international opportunities for students. Among the initiatives presented, “Pioneers of Living Engineering” stood out—a project that involves sending 12 FICT students to Madrid, Spain, as part of experiences designed to broaden their education and expose them to new academic and professional contexts.
The faculty also presented the strategic alliances it has developed through agreements and collaborations with the business sector. These partnerships allow for classroom education to be complemented by industry-related experiences and are part of FICT’s strategy to expand its relationships with Ecuadorian and international companies. During this event, awards were presented to various strategic partners in recognition of their cooperation with the unit through a range of activities.
The event also provided an opportunity to invite graduates to contribute to the faculty by sharing their professional experience through opportunities for exchange, mentorship, and inspiration for students currently pursuing degrees in Geosciences. As part of the event, alumni were also the first to see a preview of the documentary project “Tierra de Gigantes,” a production in which FICT captures and presents the faculty’s legacy and vision for the future.
For FICT, maintaining an active relationship with its alumni represents an opportunity to strengthen the ties between academic training, professional experience, and the business sector. These events also help identify new opportunities for collaboration that contribute to student development and the fulfillment of ESPOL’s mission.
The FICT 2026 Alumni Gathering thus provided a space for generations to reconnect and to share in the evolution of a faculty that continues to work toward training professionals prepared for the challenges of engineering in Geosciences. The participation of its graduates opens new possibilities for continuing to build a community connected to higher education and the country’s development.
