The Faculty of Geosciences Engineering (FICT) participated in Sostenia by ESPOL 2026, held on July 21 and 22 at the Hilton Colón Hotel in Guayaquil. The event brought together representatives from academia, the business community, the public sector, and civil society organizations to exchange experiences and promote initiatives aimed at sustainable development.
The FICT was represented by Paul César Carrión Mero, Ph.D., dean, and Kenny Escobar, M.Sc., associate dean, along with academic coordinators, professors, researchers, and students, who attended the event on behalf of the school. The delegation actively participated in conferences, panels, and exhibition spaces focused on sustainability, innovation, and inter-institutional collaboration, strengthening knowledge exchange and ties with the academic and scientific community.
During the tour, the delegation visited the booth of ESPOL’s Sustainable Development Club, led by its advisor, Johanna Zambrano, M.Sc., where they learned about the initiatives the student group has developed since 2019 to promote the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). They also participated in an interactive activity to calculate their ecological footprint—an experience that encouraged reflection on the impact of daily habits and the importance of adopting more environmentally responsible lifestyles.
Participation in Sostenia also fostered exchanges with representatives from academia, the business sector, the public sector, and civil society organizations, creating opportunities to strengthen collaborative networks and promote future initiatives focused on sustainability.
Through events like this, FICT reaffirms its commitment to the holistic education of its students and to promoting a culture of sustainability, fostering knowledge exchange and building partnerships that contribute to sustainable development from within academia.
