FICT and CIPAT Strengthen Research Capabilities Within Their Academic Unit

Participants in the “Scientific Method” workshop

On Friday, March 20, 2026, the “Scientific Method” workshop began at the Faculty of Geosciences Engineering (FICT) of the Escuela Superior Politecnica del Litoral (ESPOL). The event, organized by the Center for Research and Applied Projects in Geosciences (CIPAT), took place as part of the 2026 Training Conference, aimed at FICT staff, with the goal of strengthening research and academic skills.

The workshop was opened by researchers María Fernanda Jaya and Maribel Aguilar, who presented the objectives and scope of the training program. The academic program is designed to strengthen knowledge of the principles of the scientific method, promoting critical and reflective thinking applied to research development, as well as scientific writing and project formulation.

The training, lasting 20 academic hours, is taught by Paúl Carrión, Ph.D., dean of FICT; Fernando Morante, Ph.D., director of CIPAT; Maribel Aguilar, Ph.D. (c), a faculty member at FICT; and María Fernanda Jaya, Ph.D. (c), a researcher at CIPAT. The academic team brings its expertise in scientific research and university education, contributing to the strengthening of institutional capacities.

As intended, the initiative aims to encourage the production of scholarly articles stemming from the educational process, thereby fostering the generation of applied knowledge and strengthening the culture of research within the faculty. This initiative contributes to academic and scientific development, in line with the institution’s commitment to advancing society through research.
