ESPOL Strengthens Training in Structural and Seismic-Resistant Engineering with an International Lecture on Drilled Piles

Innovation in deep foundations: ESPOL promotes the use of real-time CPT data

The Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral, through its Master’s Program in Seismic-Resistant Civil Structures, hosted a technical seminar titled “Displacement Drilled Piles: Real-Time Capacity Prediction Using CPT Data,” held virtually on Wednesday, April 8, 2026.

The main objective of the event was to share specialized knowledge on the design, analysis, and behavior of displacement bored piles—a fundamental element in structural engineering and deep foundation projects—with an emphasis on predicting their capacity in real time using CPT (Cone Penetration Test) data. This approach contributes to strengthening advanced competencies in structural, geotechnical, and earthquake-resistant design.

The event featured the participation of Génesis Figueroa, Ph.D., as a speaker, and Natividad García, Ph.D., as moderator, who shared up-to-date knowledge and relevant experiences in the area of deep foundations and their interaction with structures.

As a result, the event enhanced the academic training of civil engineering students and professionals, promoting the use of modern geotechnical and structural analysis tools and the application of real-time data to optimize accuracy, safety, and efficiency in the design of civil engineering projects. Furthermore, the presentation aligned with current trends in engineering innovation, contributing to the development of more resilient and sustainable solutions.

This initiative is part of ESPOL’s efforts to promote the internationalization of knowledge through the participation of international experts and the creation of high-level academic learning opportunities for the technical and scientific community.
