The Faculty of Earth Sciences Engineering (FICT) at the Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL) hosted a training session focused on the 5th Call for Entries for the 2026 Ecuador Habitat Award, organized by the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transportation. The event took place in person on April 16, 2026, in the faculty’s satellite classroom, with the participation of representatives from the public sector, academia, and decentralized autonomous governments.
The purpose of the meeting was to disseminate the call’s guidelines and provide tools for the formulation of urban projects that integrate climate resilience and sustainable development, in accordance with the AHSE 2036 Sustainable Habitat Agenda. During the session, attendees learned about application methodologies and evaluation criteria, strengthening their capacity to align territorial initiatives with national urban development policies.
The training was led by Anl. Karen Sofía Rosero Armijo, Anl. Juan Sebastián Lascano Luzuriaga, and Anl. Rowinne Martínez Nuques, representatives of the Ministry of Infrastructure and Transportation, along with Ing. Paola Guadalupe from the Ministry of the Environment, Water, and Ecological Transition, and Juan Fernando Vasconez from the United Nations Development Programme. The session highlighted that the award offers specialized technical assistance and support in project structuring, prioritizing proposals that incorporate gender perspectives, democratic governance, and the implementation of trustworthy projects.
The event served as a platform for collaboration between academia and local stakeholders, promoting the development of sustainable urban proposals that influence local planning. Such initiatives reinforce ESPOL’s role in training professionals and fostering links with public policies aimed at the country’s sustainable development.
