ESPOL and the Decentralized Autonomous Provincial Government of Santa Elena made progress on a proposal for a specific agreement to carry out activities aimed at mitigating floods and landslides associated with the El Niño phenomenon. The meeting took place on July 22, 2027, at the offices of the Santa Elena Prefecture, within the framework of the existing inter-institutional cooperation agreement between the two institutions.
During the meeting, the draft of the specific agreement was presented, which calls for the creation of flood and landslide risk maps. This information aims to contribute to a better understanding of the territory’s risk conditions and to support the planning of mitigation actions in response to events associated with the El Niño phenomenon.
As part of the event, the book *Pozos de Esperanza* was also presented to the Vice Prefect of Santa Elena, Juanita Córdova. This book is one of the outputs generated through activities related to the coordination of the Manglaralto River-Aquifer System Ecohydrology Demonstration Site.
The publication aims to encourage greater awareness and participation among children and youth in the care and conservation of water resources. Its dissemination is particularly relevant in the province of Santa Elena, where water stress conditions highlight the need to strengthen a culture focused on the responsible use, protection, and sustainability of water.
This collaboration between academia and the public sector strengthens the generation of technical information for risk management and opens up opportunities to continue developing joint initiatives related to territorial resilience, water management, and response to natural disasters.
