Through an initiative led by the Faculty of Geosciences Engineering (FICT), the Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL) and the Ecuadorian Chamber of Mining (CME) signed an inter-institutional agreement that strengthens collaboration between academia and the country’s mining sector. The signing ceremony establishes a framework for cooperation to promote joint initiatives focused on academic training, research, and engagement with society.
The Ecuadorian Chamber of Mining, a private, nonprofit organization that represents and coordinates companies, professionals, and various stakeholders in the national mining sector, promotes organized, technically sustainable, and socially and environmentally responsible mining activities. Through this agreement, both institutions are solidifying a strategic partnership that will facilitate ESPOL’s cooperation with the productive sector.
The symbolic signing was led by the Dean of Research, Ángel Ramírez, Ph.D., while the Chamber was represented by its executive president, María Eulalia Silva Ricaurte. The event was attended by officials, professors, and researchers from the Faculty of Geosciences Engineering (FICT).
Among the main benefits of the agreement is the coordination of pre-professional internship opportunities for FICT-ESPOL students at companies and organizations linked to the mining sector. It also provides for the development of research projects focused on innovation and technological development to address the industry’s needs.
Paúl Carrión, Ph.D., Dean of FICT, emphasized that the agreement will help promote community engagement projects focused on sustainability, social responsibility, and community development. It will also promote courses, workshops, and continuing education programs that will strengthen the technical training of ESPOL mining students and help prepare them for their professional careers.
This partnership represents an opportunity for the FICT community to align academic training with the realities of the mining sector, creating new opportunities and developing joint solutions that contribute to a more technically advanced, innovative, sustainable, and responsible mining industry in Ecuador. This initiative reaffirms the commitment to preparing professionals capable of addressing challenges through collaboration with strategic partners.
