CDS promotes women's participation in STEM through an academic visit to the ESPOL campus

ESPOL promotes STEM careers for women with a guided tour of the CDS

ESPOL’s Sustainable Development Club (CDS) organized a campus tour for a delegation of young women and mentors from the Nia Kali Foundation. The purpose of this initiative was to introduce the academic environment, educational opportunities, and career prospects offered by ESPOL, particularly in the fields of Geology, Mining, and Petroleum Engineering.

During the visit, the participants toured various key practical learning spaces, including the Petroleum and Drilling Fluids, Petrography, and Mineral Processing laboratories. In these spaces, they were able to participate in hands-on activities that allowed them to gain direct insight into the technical and scientific work involved in each of these disciplines, providing a more tangible experience of what it means to study in these fields.

As a central part of the visit, a discussion session was held with professionals who shared their career paths from different perspectives within the STEM fields. In this context, Joselyne Solórzano, M.Sc., shared her experience as a geologist and water researcher, highlighting the role of science in understanding and managing water resources. For her part, Johanna Zambrano, M.Sc., discussed her career as a petroleum engineer, integrating her perspective on sustainability and the need to train professionals with a responsible outlook aligned with the current challenges facing the energy sector.

Leticia Tituaña, M.Sc., also shared her experience as a water resources professional, highlighting a story of personal and academic growth that is particularly inspiring. Her testimony demonstrated how access to higher education can serve as a tool for transformation, not only on an individual level but also for communities.

These types of initiatives reflect the Sustainable Development Club’s commitment to creating spaces that promote equitable access to higher education, inspire scientific vocations, and strengthen women’s participation in areas critical to the country’s development.
