ESPOL’s Faculty of Geosciences Engineering (FICT) welcomed nine students from the Babahuyus Educational Unit as part of an outreach event to introduce them to higher education and the School’s academic offerings. The event took place on July 21 and allowed visitors from the city of Babahoyo to participate in a hands-on program designed to provide a firsthand look at the work carried out in the Civil Engineering, Petroleum Engineering, Mining Engineering, and Geology programs.
During the tour, the students participated in short hands-on workshops in various FICT laboratories, where they had the opportunity to gain an understanding of some of the processes, applications, and areas of study that characterize each program. The experience allowed them to interact with learning environments that are integral to the academic curriculum at ESPOL.
FICT promotes the concept of “Living Engineering,” an initiative aimed at introducing high school students to the Earth sciences through hands-on experiences that allow them to explore their academic interests and become familiar with the university environment. Through these programs, the Faculty strengthens its ties with educational institutions across the country and contributes to the career guidance of young people, highlighting the importance of these fields of knowledge for sustainable development, infrastructure, responsible management of natural resources, and innovation in the service of society.
