Researchers and students from FICT participated in the 9th Earth Sciences Conference, presenting studies on water management, geological hazards, and volcanic dynamics in the Galápagos Islands. The research provides tools for sustainable planning, natural hazard management, and decision-making based on scientific evidence, strengthening ESPOL’s presence in one of the country’s leading forums for scientific dissemination.

FICT has launched a technical-scientific collaboration with the Real Alto archaeological project to apply geological and geotechnical tools to the study of one of Ecuador’s most important heritage sites. The partnership includes specialized analyses conducted in the faculty’s laboratories and a technical visit to the site, with the goal of providing scientific information to strengthen archaeological research and the conservation of cultural heritage.

Researchers from the Geoinformation and Remote Sensing Laboratory at FICT-ESPOL were awarded an international CAPES fellowship to pursue doctoral studies in Brazil, thereby strengthening their expertise in remote sensing, geoinformation, and environmental monitoring; this achievement promotes academic internationalization and scientific cooperation between Ecuador and Brazil for the development of innovative solutions in land management and sustainability.

A new cohort of the FICT-ESPOL Master’s in Civil Engineering program, consisting of 22 professionals, will strengthen their skills in construction, sanitation, and applied innovation; the program continues to establish itself as a center for advanced training that promotes the development of sustainable solutions for infrastructure and water management in the country.

Researchers and technical staff from FICT and CIPAT participated in an international event organized by UNESCO and the European RESILIAGE project at the Tungurahua Volcano Geopark. The event fostered the exchange of knowledge on community resilience, heritage, risk management, and climate change adaptation through workshops and visits to vulnerable areas.

ESPOL, through the FCV, CIPAT, and FICT, conducts water monitoring activities in communities in Manglaralto and the Bulubulu River basin, enhancing knowledge about water quality and availability. These efforts promote the sustainable management of water resources and strengthen the ties between academia and the community.

Faculty members and researchers from the FICT and the Master’s Program in Seismic-Resistant Civil Structures continue to enhance ESPOL’s international profile through scientific publications in specialized journals such as CPI Worldwide. Their research promotes sustainable and innovative solutions for civil engineering, incorporating recycled materials and eco-efficient technologies.

ESPOL's FICT participated in a study published in a Q1 journal that uses InSAR technology and Sentinel-1 data to analyze the deformation of volcanoes in northern Ecuador. The results demonstrate the potential of these techniques to strengthen volcanic monitoring and risk management through non-invasive tools.

FICT ESPOL professor Carola Gordillo, Ph.D., will participate as an international speaker at CILA Monterrey 2026, where she will present a technical analysis on sustainable and climate-resilient road infrastructure; her participation strengthens the presence of Ecuadorian civil engineering in international forums on research, innovation, and road sustainability.
