Fieldwork Enhances Technical Training for Master's Students in Geotechnical Engineering

Fieldwork in which technical criteria were applied

Students from the VIII cohort of the Master’s Program in Geotechnical Engineering participated in a field demonstration class, where they applied technical criteria directly on-site. This activity complemented their academic training through observation and analysis under real-world conditions.

The session was led by professors Simonetta Cola, Ph.D., Paolo Simonini, Ph.D., and Davide Besenzon, Ph.D., who taught the course “Field and Laboratory Tests in Geotechnical Engineering.” During the practical session, students also received a demonstration of the use of the penetrometer and the seismic dilatometer, key tools for soil characterization in geotechnical studies. These activities helped reinforce their understanding of the testing methods applied in the field.

This type of experience contributes to the training of professionals with solid technical expertise, aligned with the demands of modern geotechnical engineering and the needs of the industry. It also reinforces the practical focus of ESPOL’s graduate programs, promoting an applied education that addresses real-world challenges in the field of engineering.
