Project Closure | Collaboration Between Academia and Civil Society for Sustainable Management in the Amazon

Zoom Session

As part of the project “Citizen Participation for Sustainable Land Management in Amazonian Areas Affected by Mining,” the official presentation of results was held to the Citizen Participation Corporation, as part of the project’s closing and handover process.

Researchers from the Center for Research and Applied Projects in Geosciences (CIPAT) and professors from the Faculty of Geosciences Engineering (FICT) at the Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL), led by Professor Paúl Carrión Mero, Project Director, and Maribel Aguilar Aguilar, co-director, who, together with the project team, presented the main findings and contributions generated during the project’s implementation.

Among the results presented, the following stand out:

  • Analysis of socio-environmental issues related to mining in Amazonian regions

  • Map of ecotourism suitability for the study area based on analyzed geospatial data

  • Proposed ecotourism routes that integrate the geological, biological, and cultural richness of the Amazon

  • Proposed strategies aimed at promoting ecotourism as an alternative for sustainable development

This initiative helped strengthen the partnership between academia and the private sector, facilitating technical exchange and the validation of results for their potential implementation in regional policies and actions.

With this initiative, ESPOL and CIPAT, in collaboration with FICT, reaffirm their commitment to generating applied knowledge and collaborating with key stakeholders to contribute to the sustainable development of the Ecuadorian Amazon.
