As part of the academic strengthening and community outreach activities with the productive sector, Petroleum Engineering students from ESPOL participated in a technical field trip to the Pacifpetrol S.A. facilities, located in Ancón, Santa Elena province.

The purpose of the activity was to complement the students' academic training through direct exposure to real-world oil and gas industry operations. During the visit, participants learned about the artificial lift systems used in the Ancón field wells, including various pumping methods, as well as experiences in integrating solar panels into oil operations.

Additionally, aspects related to the phases of the crude oil refining process, field operational management, and the technical challenges associated with production in mature fields were addressed, allowing students to gain a comprehensive understanding of the oil supply chain.

This experience facilitated the connection between theoretical content reviewed in the classroom and its practical application in real environments, strengthening the technical learning and professional training of future Petroleum Engineers.

We extend a special thanks to M.Sc. Christian Sánchez Rodríguez, Field Superintendent of the Petrosenergy Group, for his valuable contribution to the students' education and for the openness provided for the development of this academic activity.

Alignment with the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs):

This technical field trip contributes to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) by strengthening Quality Education (SDG 4) through practical training experiences, promoting the analysis of more efficient and sustainable energy solutions (SDG 7), encouraging innovation and the development of industrial infrastructure (SDG 9), and fostering a responsible vision of production and consumption in the energy sector (SDG 12).
